I'm so busy
Being busy makes you feel cool. So much to do. So little time. A friend calls and asks you to pick up her child from school. She isn't feeling well and her grandmother is in the hospital. This is the answer you get from your friend. "Oh my god, I don't dare. I've got so much to do. I really wish I could but you know how hard it is to get into Alex for a trim." You tell her it's okay and drag your sorry butt out of bed. She, your "friend", hangs up and starts her day. Take the kids to day care. Call the doctor to change appointments. Try to slip in a little tanner time. If she's lucky she'll have time to get a mani and a pedi. Fred called and is bringing Mr. Slate home for dinner. She gives Maria a call and tells her to set an extra plate and change the menu. No brontosaurus burgers tonight. Not one thing is going to get in the way of her happiness or plans. She has a purpose. She is part of the machine of life. She is an important cog. Then there is you. Your calendar has nothing penciled in. Non busy folks still use pencil and paper. You don't feel cool. If you do get an invitation to go to lunch you don't have to check. You know you are free. Sometimes you feel like you should be doing something else. Something more worthwhile. But what would it be? Why should you mess with something that works and makes you feel good, most of the time. You wouldn't be happy with every minute scheduled, would you? When you get up would you want to eat one-half cup of Total with one-half cup of skim milk and one-half cup orange juice between 7:00 and 7:15. I wouldn't. More people should throw caution to the wind. Fly by the seat of their pants. Wake up one morning and put their pants on backwards. Call in sick to work. Drink pop! Eat candy! Order a Big Mac with a large order of fries! Let your hair down, you crazy zootan! There are SCHEDULES and there are schedules. I prefer the softer schedule. The flexible one that let's people know that if they need you, you'll do everything in your power to be there for them.
