Epiphanies

Ever have one? Sounds like something biblical. I had one the other day.
This is how it went........
While reading the paper an article was about how the Mafia is getting "into" the wind turbine business. Those crazy Mafia guys get into everything. I went on to read the rest of the important local stories. Pet of the week. Neighbor of the week. Local priest caught in scandal. Local school nurse runs off with student. Church secretary confesses to embezzelment. She had every intention of paying it back.
A few hours later in the car something clicked. It was the Mafia story. There was no surprise there. They did just what is expected of them. They never disappoint us. They are the bad guys. On the other hand we expect our government to be to be the good guys. They won't leave us beaten and bleeding in a corner of a dark alley. They won't be standing outside the banks on Friday waiting to take another cut out of our pay. That would certainly be unexpected and disappointing. But now comes my epiphany. We know just what to expect from the bad guys but we no longer can expect that our government will do the right thing by us. As long as we don't expect our government to live up to our expectations then we won't have any disappointments if they don't.
Maybe it's not such a great thing to realize but I felt comforted by it. Don't wait for the so called good guys to run to your rescue. Do it yourself.
